Matrix Audio pursues a consistent goal: audio quality must be audible and visible. The MP-1 is the company's first pure Class A preamplifier and embodies this goal. Its minimalist housing features a multitude of circular perforations that vary in size and depth – a design that visually evokes rhythmic sound waves.

As the control center of an audio system, the preamplifier plays a crucial role: it shapes the sound, giving it structure, depth, and expression. The MP-1 processes incoming audio signals with the utmost precision and richness of tone, making music not just audible, but tangible.

Smooth warmth & sonic precision

The MP-1's fully differentiated transistor input stage impresses with exceptionally low noise and excellent linearity. The output stage operates as a pure Class A circuit with high bias voltage and no crossover distortion. Thanks to a low-noise power supply with up to 60 V operating voltage, the device achieves exceptional dynamics. A DC servo circuit keeps the offset voltage stable below 1 mV – without any coupling capacitors, enabling a linear frequency response and faithful reproduction.

Balanced design – maximum dynamics

Inside the MP-1, four completely independent, fully balanced amplifier modules are at work. Two units are available per channel for in-phase and out-of-phase signals. Even when using RCA inputs, internal conversion to a balanced signal effectively suppresses common mode interference and increases dynamics.

Versatile analog connection options

Three XLR and three RCA inputs are available. Level reduction and compensation can be configured individually for each input. This ensures a consistent volume level when switching between different sources – a convenience factor that should not be underestimated in everyday audiophile use.

Flexible outputs for individual setups

The MP-1 offers one pair of RCA and two pairs of XLR outputs. These can be operated simultaneously or separately. When outputting separately, the level can be controlled individually for each output – ideal when using multiple power amplifiers or different speakers. In bi-amping mode with both XLR outputs, four power amplifiers can be controlled – for example, for separate supply of mid/high and low frequencies.

Volume control with maximum precision

The volume is controlled by a sophisticated resistor array circuit with voltage tap. A total of 64 precision resistors (tolerance 0.001) and 32 hermetically sealed reed relays, controlled by a microcontroller, enable high-resolution, channel-equal volume adjustment. The relays switch almost silently – even when the volume is continuously changed.

Powerful power supply with copper cross-section

Two toroidal 60-watt transformers with square copper wire supply the amplifier stages of the left and right channels separately – a true dual-mono design. Compared to conventional round wire, square copper wire offers a larger conductor area, higher current carrying capacity, and lower resistance. The result: improved impulse fidelity and powerful, controlled bass. High-quality MUNDORF M-Lytic AG filter capacitors round out the power supply and ensure a silky, warm sound.

H-shaped housing design – form meets function

The unique H-shaped structure of the MP-1 has been optimized over a period of two years. A central 20 mm CNC-milled aluminum plate serves as the supporting element and houses all components. Heavy feet support the solid chassis and ensure mechanical stability. The clever arrangement creates isolated chambers, minimizing interference between the modules. The left and right channel electronics are also symmetrically designed – a statement in both sound and appearance.

Each component is CNC-milled multiple times and finely machined, creating a matte, elegant surface with a pleasant feel.
