The Lake People G105 MKII headphone amplifier proves to be a versatile and powerful tool that is indispensable both in the control room and in the recording room of a recording studio. Its flexibility and sophisticated additional functions make it the ideal choice for audio engineers and musicians alike.
With precise signal processing and customizable options, such as a split switch for independent playback of two mono signals, the G105 offers comprehensive control and high sound quality. In the control room, it enables detailed monitoring of audio material, while musicians in the recording room benefit from its reliable performance and customizable volume.
This combination of flexibility, robustness and ease of use makes the G105 an indispensable part of any professional studio setup.
Lake People headphone amplifiers are all developed and manufactured in Germany and are designed to preserve the fidelity and dynamics of the audio signal at the highest quality.
The Lake People G105 MKII contains everything that is still important to us today:
- robust, indestructible amplifiers with high transmission quality
- long-term stable Alps RK14 and RK11 potis
- 25 mm volume knop and balanced-knop milled from aluminum
- more than adequately dimensioned internal power supply
Inputs & Outputs
Inputs analog Stereo:-> 1x RCA unbalanced
-> 1x Neutrik XLR balanced Headphone outputs
-> 2x TRS, 6,3 mm, unbalanced
Too loud - Too quiet - the solution: Lake People PRE-GAIN
7-way adjustable gain for optimum adaptation to all sources and headphones (internal, -18, -12, -6, 0, +6, +12, +18 dB).
Unlike comparable models, the overall amplification can be adapted to the headphones used via internal jumpers. Thanks to this special Lake People technology, the headphone amplifier can be operated with almost all known headphone impedances from 8 - 600 ohms and is as low-noise and dynamic as possible.
Extensive additional functions
The balance control
In the neutral center position of the “BALANCE” control of an amplifier, a stereo signal is passed on unchanged and without attenuation, so that both channels are reproduced at the same volume. If the control is turned to the left, the volume of the right channel is reduced while the left channel remains unchanged. Conversely, turning it to the right attenuates the left channel, while the right channel remains unchanged. This function enables precise adjustment of the stereo image, depending on the spatial situation or individual preferences of the listener.
The Mode switch (MONO – STERO – PHASE)
The “MODE” switch on the Lake People G105 MKII offers several options to influence the incoming stereo signal as required. In the neutral middle position, the signal is passed on unchanged so that both channels are reproduced in their original form.
In the upper “MONO” position of the switch, which is indicated by a yellow LED, the incoming stereo signal is summed to a mono signal. In this mode, the balance control acts as a mix control: turning it to the left reduces the signal from the right channel, while turning it to the right reduces the signal from the left channel. This allows the mono signal to be individually adjusted.
In the lower “PHASE” position of the switch, also indicated by a yellow LED, the right channel is inverted, i.e. the phase is rotated by 180 degrees. This causes the stereo signal to sound unusually wide and unnatural. This function is mainly used to check the phase position of a signal and to detect possible phase cancellations.
Die SPLIT function
Thanks to its split switch, the G105 Mk II amplifier offers a versatile solution for studio applications, especially when two mono signals are required simultaneously. Split mode allows the amplifier to feed two sets of headphones with different mono signals, making it ideal for situations where two people need to listen to separate audio content at individual volume levels.
In split mode, the signal from the left input is routed to both ear cups of the headphones on the left output, while the signal from the right input is routed to both ear cups of the headphones on the right output. This makes it possible to listen to the signals independently of each other and simultaneously in mono.
The maximum volume is set using the “VOLUME” control, while the “BALANCE” control is used to select a reduced volume for one of the two channels. This allows precise adjustment of the volume ratios between the two headphones - a great advantage in studio environments where flexibility and individual adjustments are required.
Perfect headphone protection
Lake People headphone amplifiers are equipped with various protective circuits to prevent defects in headphones. These circuits protect against overvoltages, sudden current peaks or short circuits that could damage sensitive headphones. The integration of such protection mechanisms ensures that the amplifier always supplies the headphones with safe and stable power, which significantly extends their service life.
Housing & elements of the highest quality
The housing of the G105 MKII is made of black anodized aluminium. This promises high mechanical stability and resistance to harsh environmental influences. The high electrical conductivity of the surfaces results in excellent EMC properties.
The thickness of the front panel is 3 mm.
The solid milled 25 mm aluminum rotary knob is characterized by its clear design and forms the center of the Lake People G105 MKII. Thanks to its balanced weight and the Alps RK14 potentiometer, it provides a smooth, high-precision rotary feel for precise volume control.
Switch on and get started
The “POWER” switch is located on the front panel. The switched-on status is indicated by a green LED under the “POWER” switch. Two permanently short-circuit-proof transformers generate the internal operating voltages of approx. +/- 25 V.
